Three Lighthouses in One Area...Who'd of Thought

This is a different Presque Isle than the one I frequently blog about. This is not the state park in the U.P. but rather a harbor near Roger City in the eastern northern lower peninsula. They have three lighthouses there. The Old Presque Isle Lighthouse, the New Presque Isle Lighthouse, and The Range Light. There's a state harbor/marina and water that is so green-blue it looks Caribbean (although, I'm entirely assuming that, being I've never actually been to the Caribbean). What a lovely place to find with no major indicators along the highway except a sign that reads "P.I. Lighthouse Park" with an arrow.

Oh, and according to Bits, lighthouses are "too heavy to lift", in case you were wondering.

A Quick Stop on a Long Drive

It's hard to choose which one I love more (I'm talking about the two different pics of the same fern, people).

I Didn't Read Any Sign: Do Not Eat the Berries

We've been here before and we'll be back again. This last trip was done back in July, but with other happenings, I hadn't had time 'til now to upload pics and share a tale or two.

We headed out to my favorite Lake Superior stop with Mike's brother and his brother's girlfriend and their dog. An awesome day to be a turtle, dog, or a person. As I searched the shoreline for driftwood finds, I noticed berries growing in the brush. First thought, where there are berries there may be bears. Second thought, I better eat these before the bears eat them all. I hesitated long enough to mention to our party that I think I found some wild raspberries, but my lack of plant identification knowledge made me a tad skeptical. I thought that these berries may just be berries that look like raspberries, but are really poisonous, non-edible berries. Only one way to find out. I ate one and it was the best, possibly poisonous non-raspberry, raspberry I have ever had. I had not immediately died from ingesting said single berry, so I had a few more.

I am still living and breathing today, so when summer comes next year, I know where to find the tastiest raspberries in the area.

What Lake?...Lake Gogebic

We went on a forcible vacation. Mike and I really did not think we had the time to go away from our two house endeavor for a week of relaxing, but his parents had rented a cabin on Lake Gogebic and insisted that we take some time off from our to-do list. We had a great time grilling, trips on the lake via Bop's boat, swimming, and catching no fish (although, I'm sure the time may have been a tad bit nicer if fish had been caught).

We stayed at the Lake Gogebic Lodge. I can say that their Fish Fry is fabulous and their lake view is gorgeous. I got a couple of energy drinks on tap at the bar (on tap I think means powdered mix with seltzer water, but effective nonetheless). It was a good week and we managed to squeeze in a couple work days at our new house within the week too. We were left with many, many mosquito bites as memories of the week at Lake Gogebic (let's just not talk about the big puddle in the grass we all noticed when we left).

I Thought you Knew how Long the Trail Was

Oh by the way, what can happen sometimes if you come to visit, is I will take you to one of the many beautiful waterfalls in the area, forget to tell you how long the hike is out to view it, stay behind in the Jeep while Bits takes his
nap (maybe, close my eyes, for a minute or two), sip on your Iced Moolatte, and watch as you run back to the Jeep from the biting fly that was tormenting you on your 2 mile trek (seriously, Mom, Dad, and James, I really didn't know the distance to those falls, honestly).

I just can't seem to get enough of the Big Lake and Black River Harbor, so I drove my family to see why we can't stop talking about this U.P. It was a comparative photo opportunity as my Dad and I clicked similar images, but I kept bragging I captured the better ones (although he has a better camera with a better zoom, unfair competition, I think)

What is the Purpose of Suntan Lotion?...oh Yeah, I Remember Now

There may not always be time in the agenda to go camping, but when you're only 15 minutes from the Big Lake, you always have time to go swimming (or sit in your cute sun dress, forget to put on lotion and end up with a nice sunburn where the racerback design of the dress left my whiteness exposed). We had a great day and escaped the pressures of getting our new home move in ready, and our years of belongings out of our rental.

By now, my sunburn has faded, and my skin is back to it's normal tanned arms, white legs combination, the true sign of a Northerner.

Ahem,

It is not a good sign, when you almost forget your blogger account password, because it's been awhile since the last posting. Hopefully, it's been worth the wait. I have multiple postings with multiple images to share, proof that I haven't just been sitting on my behind watching bugs try in vain to fly through a closed window. The last month has brought a new home, our own home for our family, here in the U.P.
A new home also means help from our parents, meaning visits, and visits mean day trips and day trips mean pictures, so, here you go:
