Cheap Art and Rain

It's cold and rainy...and cold and rainy...oh...and cold and rainy. Luckily, we finished up raking yesterday evening and enjoyed fried eggplant pizzas for dinner...ask later.

Today was a library day for Nathan and I, and other than playing around the house and doing a bunch of rounds of "Ring Around the Rosie", the day was pretty uneventful.

But rather than go on and on about my blah day, check out my etsy site via the link to the right. I've posted new items with recession friendly prices. I am in no way saying anyone needs to purchase anything from me, I just like to share my projects with y'all, but I am going to jump on the soapbox for one brief consideration:

I've recently been obsessed with etsy items and have bought a few items from these sellers for gifts. We all will have Christmas gifts to buy this year and may not have as much of the mullah because of the weak economy. If you are struggling for ideas for this person or that, peruse the etsy sight and search by price or keyword or both. Buying from etsy can help buy "made in America" products from artists who can turn almost 100% of that income around back into our economy.

I understand Walmart and such can beat out many places on price, but etsy items are some of the most unique, creative gifts and aren't made in China (unless the seller is from China).

Rainy Days mean Splashing In Puddles

Surprise! It rained again yesterday, and is cloudy this morning. There was a break in the rain for a few hours yesterday, so Bacon Bits and I took a stroll at the park. There was a brief swing moment, but other than that it was mostly about walking around and playing a game called "Watch Out for the Poopy"...the geese are hanging out around the lake enjoying the view.
There's a little pair of tennis shoes at the front door drying out. No matter how well Mommy plays defense, the little guy always manages to break through and jump in a puddle or two. Galoshes, here we come.
It is so beautiful up here if you stop to take those moments even on rainy days to look at the sky. People don't know what they're missing if they've never ventured north of the bridge.

Uh-Oh Its going to Rain...Again

I'd have some beautiful photos for you if not for all this rain. I was planning on trying to draw fall leaves and have Bacon Bits color outside today, but that's not going to happen.

Unfortunately, it looks like another trip into Ironwood. I have to drop off a FedEx envelope and no such location near home. I'm worried about the Freshman float (and every class' for that matter); anything cardboard may get soaked and droop into a mushy pile. Mike and I are headed over to the float site right after school for finishing touches. The floats are to be lined up by 5:00. I'll post pics (rainy or not) tomorrow. Mike has been float building every night 'til at least 9:30. One more day and then homecoming tomorrow. Yay!

Here's a handy idea for being "environment conscientious": I've been on a cloth napkin kick (vintage of course). It's an easy way to reduce paper waste at home. Just throw dirty cloth napkins in with your towel wash. People will think you're fancy pants all year long- or maybe think you're a hippie. Either way is okay by me.

I Think the Rain's Killing my Mums!

Its still raining and my mums look droopy and sad. I don't know if too much rain can kill them, but they don't look happy.
It looks like we'll be spending another day inside. Yesterday, we went to Vinnies and I purchased some old records. I've been making record bowls (definitely not a new, fresh idea) and putting them in gift boxes made out of the old record album covers and using the paper sleeve as tissue inside the gift box (this may be a fresh idea). I made a few and plan on making more. Give me your feedback below, and I may choose someone to receive one from me for free. The rest of y'all can view more pics via my etsy art link located to the left.
Its off to float building for Mike again tonight; Stinky and I may have to stop by and lend a hand. We'll post finished pics of the float later.

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

It's raining today and as much as I enjoy every opportunity to sing a silly rhyme to the Babes, it means no park playing today.
We'll probably venture to the recycling center; there is no curbside pickup in our little town. We may even hit up Vinnie's (that's St. Vincent De Paul thrift store for all you in the lower U.P.). The downside to thrift shopping is (1) there is not a Goodwill close by and (2) no one (and I do mean no one) will budge on a price- even if that vintage apron has a stain on it the size of a dessert plate-and most definitely won't come out.
I'll leave you with a pic. of Beautiful Sunday Lake on the beach side that I took a few days ago while the Bacon Bits was soaking his clothes in the shallow water and feeding the ducks PB crackers.
